"Hear the advice of steadfast friends, that will help you best. [...]

Wisdom is worth more than gold."

From "Reineke Fuchs" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The Fox

  • Voss is the word for fox in Low German.

  • The fox is a smaller predator with reddish-brown fur, a pointed snout, large pointed ears, and a bushy tail.

  • A fox can also be a clever person in a figurative sense (cunning fox), based on the fable of Reineke Fuchs (Reynard the Fox).

  • In European mythology, the fox is one of the symbolic animals of the Greek god Dionysus.

  • In Japan, the fox (kitsune) also plays an important role in mythology. Foxes are the sacred animals of the deity Inari and are considered good luck charms with supernatural powers.
